Sinus Lifts

Our Edmonton dentists perform sinus lifts to raise and strengthen your upper jaw bone and allow them to reach the sinus area.

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift is a type of bone graft where your dentist adds bone material to your upper jaw in the area of your molars and premolars to strengthen it, improve bone loss, and raise the sinus floor so a dental implant can be placed.

Purposes of a Sinus Lift

The upper back jaw is a difficult area to place dental implants, because of its proximity to the sinuses. A sinus lift helps to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area, so that a stable dental implant can be placed.

There are a number of reasons you may need a sinus lift before getting a dental implant, including:

  • Your jaw bone has previously been damaged from trauma
  • You have suffered bone loss as a result of gum disease
  • Your bone has receded because of tooth loss
  • You naturally have a large sinus cavity or thin jaw bone
