Dental Bridges

To replace missing teeth and restore your smile, our dentists may use a dental bridge.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. Bridges consist of one or more pontics (fake teeth) that are bonded to adjacent teeth or dental crowns, literally 'bridging' the gap and restoring your smile.

The Procedure

Placing a dental bridge usually requires two dental appointments.

At the first visit, your dentist will take impressions and then provide you with a temporary bridge to wear until your custom one is ready.

At your next visit, your dentist will remove the temporary bridge and fit your new bridge into place by permanently bonding it to existing natural teeth or to dental crowns that have been placed for this purpose.

The Benefits

A dental bridge can help to restore the natural contour of your smile, and the bite between your upper and lower teeth.

Dental bridges are custom made for each patient and are barely noticeable when worn.

By using a bridge to fill in a gap in your teeth, your dentist will also help prevent your other teeth from shifting around and causing future dental issues.

Care

Take care of a dental bridges the same way you take care of your natural teeth.

That means regular brushing and flossing, twice-yearly visits to the dentist for cleanings and checkups, and taking care not to bite down on hard objects, or open packaging with your teeth.
