At Scotia Square Dentistry we offer nitrous oxide sedation to help nervous, anxious or special needs children receive the dental care they need in a relaxed and comfortable manner.
Nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas) can be used to help reduce a child's discomfort and anxiety during dental treatment.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation can often be an ideal way to help young patients who are anxious, uncooperative or who need to undergo a long, uncomfortable procedure. At Scotia Square Dentistry in downtown Edmonton, our dentist can help determine whether sedation is right for your child, and which option best suits your child's needs.
If nitrous oxide/oxygen is suitable for your child, it will be administered through a small breathing mask, placed over your child’s nose. This form of dental sedation will help your child to relax, without putting them to sleep. The nitrous oxide gas is easily inhaled with normal breathing, is non-addictive, and it is quickly eliminated from the child's body.
While using nitrous oxide, your child will remain fully conscious, with all of their natural reflexes. At the end of the appointment, we will administer 100% oxygen to help reverse the effects of the nitrous oxide quickly.
We love working with children and provide a range of dental care services tailored to their unique needs. Our goal is to provide your child with a comfortable, positive dental experience every time they visit our office.
