As a team at Scotia Square Dentistry, we are always striving to provide excellent dental service and the latest techniques available. Here is a little insight at what we have been doing at Scotia Square Dentistry to offer our valued patients only the best
DNA APPLIANCES
Designed as an alternative to conventional fixed orthodontic appliances, this family of removable DNA appliance is worn during the daytime and nighttime in both adults and children. They harness pain-free, natural, epigenetic developmental mechanisms that aim to correct tooth alignment, improve facial developement, ameliorate TMD issues and enhance the upper airway without surgery, drugs or injections.

ALF APPLIANCE
The Advanced Lightwear Functional appliance is another alternative technique for correcting dental orthopedic orthodontic malocclusions in both children and adults. It is a new treatment concept for the correction of TMJ pain, misaligned teeth and jaws, chronic headaches, facial pain and neck and lower back pain.
LASER THERAPY
Dentistry has harnessed laser power for many applications and procedures, and one of the most important is Laser-Assisted Periodontal Therapy which in now offered at our practice. Periodontal disease is one of the most common afflictions we all face, and one of the most difficult to treat.
Laser therapy can help by not only eradicating gum infection, but also eliminating bacteria, significantly reducing occurance. Since the laser is so precise, there are no incisions, stitches, bleeding, swelling, cosmetic changes, or gum recession..all with minimal to no pain. Laser Perio Therapy allows us to save and restore teeth that only a few years ago would have been lost.
SNORING/SLEEP APNEA- GO SEE THE DENTIST!
Chronic snorers face more than sleep loss and daytime fatigue. Cranky sleep-deprived partners can lead to family tension and eventually the break of their relationship. And believe it or not, the non-snoring partner can suffer more by being awakened by an oblivious snorer.
More than one third of snorers mistakenly believe there is no effective treatment available to them. Not so-dentistry could have a solution. If you are a chronic snorer, you may think you've tried everything...changing your sleeping position...wearing a nose clip...and you may be ready to resort to surgery. But before you do, consider a dental solution.
A small comfortable custom-fitted oral appliance may be the solution for you, and there is more good news. Your oral appliance can also help with grinding and jaw joint problems as well as snoring.
Come in and ask Dr. Heit how she can help you with your sleep apnea and snoring.
SCOTIA SQUARE DENTISTRY
As a team, we are continually educating and updating ourselves on the latest advances in dentistry.
Recently Dr. Heit and Helen had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Dave Singh DDS PhD BDS,founder of the field of epigenetic orthodontics in San Jose, CA. They attended a 3 day seminar on epigenetic orthodontics presented by Dr. Singh and had the great opportunity to meet and with other collegues from Canada and US.

In 2009 had the opportunity to travel to Denver to witness Dr. Heit recieve her fellowship at ICCMO and attend the yearly IACA in Sanfrancisco. Dr. Tammarie Heit, also recently attended the 15th International Congress of the International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO) in Fukuoka, Japan on November 14-15, 2009.
Dr. Heit was one of three members of ICCMO to attain the distinguished credential of Mastership in 2009. In a formal robed ceremony, Mastership was conferred upon members who have reached the pinnacle of this field by fulfilling the rigorous requirements. The Mastership process requires a minimum two-year commitment. In her pursuit of Mastership, Dr. Heit first achieved Fellowship, then successfully passed a two-hour written examination, submitted a thesis proposal for approval, followed by a completed thesis entitled, “Neuromuscular Orthotics in the Treatment of Craniomandibular Dysfunction and the Effects on Patients with Multiple Sclerosis – A Pilot Study”. Following a thorough review of the thesis, the Mastership Board of Examiners conducted an oral exam in which Dr. Heit answered questions on her thesis as well as on general science.
ICCMO is a society of health care professionals with a common interest in the etiologic role of orthopedic deformities as related to the various symptoms of head and neck pain and dysfunction. The College is a worldwide organization that fosters an exchange of knowledge among those engaging in dentistry, medicine and collateral health care professionals.
